This addicting ice cream layer dessert is a crowd pleaser and one my family makes on repeat. The layers of Oreo, ice cream, and fudge make for a sweet and satisfying ending to a family meal. The sprinkles were an added touch when I made it back in December so you can decorate the top or just leave plain.

This dessert needs to be made in advance and has a few steps. When I’m hosting people I love having a dessert that I can prepare ahead of time and it’s ready to go. Then, I can focus on the dinner preparations. I know we are approaching swimsuit season, so this recipe doesn’t really belong in May, but I had to get it posted! Enjoy 🙂

Here are the layers!

Crush up the Oreos

If you do not have a food processor, you can use a strong blender. Or, place Oreos in a large resealable bag and crush with a mallet or rolling pin.

Mix Oreos and Cool Whip

Soften cool whip by leaving on the counter for about 30 minutes.

Spread in the pan for Layer 1

Layer 1 looks like this. Freeze about 2 hours so you can spread ice cream easily on top.

Layer 2

To soften the icecream, let it sit out at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes or put in the microwave for 30 seconds. You want it spreadable but not melted.

Finished Product

I love the layers in this dessert!

Leftovers!

If I ever have leftovers, I like to steal bites from my freezer. I usually just leave a fork in the pan. Also, I always have to keep the line even 🙂

FAQ

Can I swap vanilla icecream?

Yes, my family often uses peppermint around the holidays. Mint chocolate chip is another great idea and pairs well with the Oreos.

Can I make my own fudge topping?

Of course. This is a quicky dessert but if you want a more homemade dessert, use the fudge topping from my buster bar dessert. Make sure to let cool before spreading over the icecream layer.

Notes

Katie’s Tips:
*I added sprinkles around the holidays for an added pop of color. After spreading the fudge, sprinkle on desired sprinkles before the final freeze.
*You can you any ice cream flavor you like. Peppermint is a fun choice to make it more festive.
*Regular Oreos work, but why use regular when you can have Double Stuffed?
*You can use a 9 by 13 and I have in the past. It will just be a little thinner piece to serve.
